In some areas of Florida, where up to 20% of the population lives below the poverty line, You Can Make A Difference (YCMAD) provides support to dog owners on low incomes to help cover the cost of local vet bills. We are working with YCMAD to help provide low cost spay/neuter, vaccination, heartworm treatment, emergency care and surgery services to low income dog owners in Gadsden, Liberty and Jackson County – giving dogs a second chance at life, that they truly deserve.
Following the humanitarian crisis in Puerto Rico caused by Hurricane Maria in September 2017, we provided support to YCMAD for an emergency spay/neuter and vaccination project on the island. The grant paid for the spay/neuter and vaccination of 90 dogs whose owners simply could not afford any veterinary care for their pets at that time.
We have been supporting YCMAD since 2015, contributing towards the cost of a veterinary assistance voucher programme in Gadsden, Liberty and Jackson Counties, Florida, where around 20% of the population live below the poverty line. Our support has enabled YCMAD to provide low cost spay/neuter services, vaccinations and emergency care to dogs owned by people on low income. In 2019, the newly agreed grant will allow YCMAD to issue further 150 vouchers to local pet owners over 12 months.
